The most difficult final.
Sculpted in clay, then cast in bondo using a plaster mold. Colored with spray paint and shoe polish. The glass part was made by vacuforming PETV plastic over a plaster lathe. Aced that mothafucka.

Check it, an update! I love Tumblr for taking in some artists’ work and seeing what you good folks are up to, but on my end it feels like shouting into a void. I have another account for crazy dreams and mindless rants, there the lack of audience is nice. Typing is great, and the internet leaves out the horrifying scenario of someone finding an embarrassing notebook or folder on my desktop. Here it feels almost like sitting in the ring of friends, with no words but maybe some uncomfortable stares o__________o
But anyway. To break the ice again, here’s two parts of a three part final. The class was History of Industrial Design, and with much-appreciated freedom I chose a more graphic approach to recreating something in different art movements.
1. Art Nouveau: vertical exaggeration, flowing lines, fonts similar to the time, and pretty beau because sex sold.
2. Japonesism: black, white, and red color scheme, vertical typography, a bit flat and spare.
3rd was Machine Aesthetic and is absent. I didn’t really understand that movement and it showed /: Welp.
We have this in school!
I never saw it print before, but we use things it has all the time for practice making orthographic drawings and whatnot.
A few things to note; we don’t print anything much larger than a few square inches (that powder stuff is mad expensive), and instead of scanning an item we build it in either AutoCAD or Solidworks.
Here’s something we made and printed. It was an AutoCAD final- a candle holder. Mine’s the one in front.

One of my finals. The idea was to make an angler fish, but replace the glowing bait-lurer with a clock. The eyes and clock glow.
I’d give myself an A+ for the idea, C- for execution. It looks incredibly amateur, and the prof was just short of competence enough to give tips on how to polish appearance. I hope to revisit this some day. (And make some bank off this bitch. How you doin’ Adventure Aquarium gift shop?)
